The character type that Eminem conveys in this cover is a laid back, normal and matured up adult! He is literally walking his road to ‘RECOVERY’, as the road is narrowing towards the horizon. This album cover is influential as it reinstates, but at the same time shows promising change in Marshall. I think the ‘E’ was also changed to re-establish that it is still the same Eminem and he has not changed this would be done to show that the audience will still be getting the powerful lyrics and music pieces out of all his songs in the latest album.

Also the ‘E’ in the heading has also been switched around we often see this in Eminem’s name and it’s his trademark thing. I believe this shows serious damage has been done as this symbol is closely linked with hospitals, as if Eminem has not just had a surface injury, but mentally he was unstable but now is on his way to ‘Recovery’. The ‘O’ has been changed to the typical American red cross sign. ‘Recovery’ is in the top right of the screen and is in white writing and block capitals the ‘O’ and the ‘E’ have also been changed. The title on this album cover is also interesting and I believe it is quite powerful. The line on the road I consider to be almost guiding Eminem on his straight line to recovery, so he doesn’t spiral off. In this interesting album cover there are no obvious props being used, but I think the designers of this image have manipulated the normal conventions of a prop and have used the line marking on the road as a prop. The casual and unhurried stance also demonstrates that Eminem is not about to be pressurised and he will know when he is fully recovered, and in doing so he will at his own speed. The gesture that is publicised in this image through Eminem walking directly in the centre of the road I believe shows that he is not about to deviate into an opposite direction connotating that he is not going to back track in his recovery. Also with his hands in his pockets it doesn’t look like he is walking at a fast speed, so I also believe he has done this to show that he is not going to change again and that he will move at his own paced and not rushed into doing anything stupid. I think he has done this to create the effect to show that he is finally comfortable with himself, emulated through the clothes and also to show he now has his head screwed on straight and he knows what he wants to accomplish in the rest of his life. Eminem, real name Marshall, is wearing very laid back and comfortable clothes in this image for example, he is wearing a woolly hat, a body warmer, a hooded jumper, baggy trousers and some trainers.
Eminem recovery album meaning Patch#
Another aspect in the album cover’s image is that the sky gets lighter towards the horizon, I think this shows that he is moving towards the light and getting over a rough patch in his life.Īnother factor I looked at was the clothing in this image I believe this element is a very important component because it often mirror’s the mood that the artist is trying to convey. Now he is just concentrated on ‘staying on the straight road to Recovery’ to better his own life. In addition as the lens is also less focused on the outside, I think this creates a connotated meaning that Eminem now isn’t concerned about his surroundings and he isn’t going to let other people interfere with his life. In this image for the cover we also see the focus on the lens is centred to the road, I believe this creates a meaning that Eminem is concentrated on staying in a straight line to his ‘Recovery’, which links in with the album name.

In his album cover for ‘Recovery’ we see Eminem walking down an empty street that looks like it’s in an urban yet vacant area in America. I decided to study one of Eminem’s albums because he is one of the most successful rappers of all time also he has such a fascinating story behind everything he does including his rise to fame. Another interesting album cover I analysed was Eminem’s latest release, ‘Recovery’.
